MITENGO SCHOOL FOR CARPENTRY AND JOINERY

A SHORT HISTORY:

When Fr. Sijm, a Montfort priest, was in charge of the Mitengo parish, in the tea growing area of Malawi, he noticed that people did not know how to make roof constructions.
More importantly, there were hordes of youngsters with no trade skills, no prospect for a brighter future.

This was why, in 1982, he founded a Technical School.
The first group of students were from around the surrounding communities and - after obtaining their certificates - were mostly employed by the neighbouring tea estates.
Since 1992 the "School for Carpentry and Joinery" is run by the FIC brothers.
