ST VINCENT DE PAUL

From the early days of the Congregation Vincent de Paul has been seen by many brothers as an inspiring example.

Vincent de Paul (1580-1660), a priest in France, dedicated his whole life to the service of underprivileged population groups in the French society of his time. He exerted himself for the well-being of, among others, slaves and convicts, elderly, sick and disabled people, the poor and orphans. Besides his works of charity, the promotion of religious formation and spiritual deepening in all sections of the population also had Vincent's undivided attention. To support his activities he founded a congregation of men (Lazarists) and of women (Daughters of Charity).

Vincent's apostolic involvement was nourished by a deeply religious mind. It was this orientation towards the Kingdom of God which urged to imitation and was for the founders of the FIC Congregation indicative of the spirituality of their own community of brothers. And so, many brothers have recognised themselves in the work and the religious animation of Vincent and have found a source of inspiration in it.
