FIC VOCATION DRIVE

The Brothers FIC Provincial vocation team in Malawi embarked on a vocation promotion on Saturday, 12th March 2011. The team was led by Bro. Stanislaus Finye, chairman of the Vocation team. They co-opted Mzedi FIC formation community and Fr. Menace Mukaka, a Comboni priest.

The venue was at Blantyre Teachers College where Bro. Martin Dariyo (Provinncial Superior) teaches. This is a co-edu institution of over 900 students, with the highest population of catholic students. The programme was well planned and well executed as such all those who participated felt it was no time wasted.

Bros. Stanislaus and Trustful gave a general overview of the aim of visiting the college. They highlighted a bit on vocation as a call in general with a stress on vocation to the Religious life (Brotherhood and Sisterhood). Some references were made in the Bible to support their points. Fr. Mukaka was given a chance afterwards to talk about Priesthood in general, and with particular reference to his congregation.

Following this, was a power-point presentation specifically about the way of life of the Brothers FIC. The following areas of the FIC way of life were explained alongside the power-point presentation: the Foundation and History of the congregation, prayer and apostolate of the FIC Brothers in Malawi. They also spoke a bit on the FIC communities and the stages in formation.

After the power point presentation, the chance was given for questioning. It was a moment of great excitement. There were thought provoking questions as well as questions that created laughter. Students were not timid or shy at all to ask their questions. In, fact the chairman had to limit the questions due to time factor. All the Brothers present and Fr. Mukaka contributed in answering the questions. Knowledge and experience came to play among the Brothers and the priest in order to provide satisfactory answers to these youngsters. Believe me that the programme ended with both parties satisfied.

"Now, ask the vocation team how many their net was able to catch and they will tell you that the net was too heavy to be pulled ashore and so, they left it in the water with the fish. They have come home to gather momentum for their next fishing expedition and that may enable them to pull that net out of the water for the bumper harvest".

There were over 60 students who attended the programme.

Congratulations to the vocation team!
