"The punctual bird"

Bro. Fabian Kuupille.

Bro. Fabian Kuupille was born at the holy village of Liero in the Upper West Region of Ghana in 1956. After his elementary education at Nemora L/A middle school, it was clear that he would rise higher than that. There are many sides to look at Fabian. I will concentrate on two aspects – his humanity and his apostolic life.

Initially, he did some “Pupil teaching” and can boast of some graduates – as well as some school drop outs. He also worked as an Accounts Clerk with the erstwhile Credit Union. Fortunately, he left before the Credit Union collapsed. Later, he graduated from the Teacher Training College and taught for some time before joining the FIC Brothers. Having tasted money earlier on, it is surprising that he chose the value of poverty in the Religious Life,

Bro. Fabian is known by many names. His elementary school mates call him “Pula”. Some Brothers call him “the Limping Fabian”. Others call him “the, the, the, the, Fabian”. His favorite girl friends call him “Fabi”. He also fondly refers to his colleagues as “Ndoo” – meaning, “my bosom friend”. These names emphasize the fact that Fabian has an amiable and jovial character. He enjoys a joke and can tease his friends shamelessly. According to his late mother, his spoken English is at its best after he has emptied a few bottles of beer. “ume ere ni kyar, kyar, kyar, kyar me li lea”, meaning, he rattles English char, char, char, char, like a bird. In his hay days Fabian won many awards as a dancer. When he takes the floor to dance, he changes styles as often as a snake climbing a tree. Fabian is a tough man. He is no stranger to road accidents. In all of it he shows resilience and courage. He can handle pain like an ass handling load.

Since his first Profession in 1989 Bro. Fabian has remained close to the apostolic ideals of our founders. His preferred apostolate has been to educate and form the youth. He tackles his Religious duties with dedication and commitment. He is proud of his vocation as a Brother. As Headmaster of St. Mary’s Primary/Junior high School in the hinterland of Chinchang, he worked hard and transformed the lives of many. As he celebrates twenty five years of religious life, he can also count more than twenty five university graduates from his school work.

After graduating from Tangaza University, Bro. Fabian continued his youth formation at the St. Charles Minor Seminary in Tamale, where he taught English. He endeared himself to the students as “the punctual bird” who never misses classes.

His leadership qualifies came to the fore when he was chosen as a Councilor to help run the affairs of the Ghana Province. At the same time that others were shying away from leadership responsibilities he demonstrated courage and accepted to form a team. For six years he ably combined this leadership role in the Provincial Council with teaching English at the Nandom Senior High School. Because of the great class numbers, handling English at Nandom Senior High School was a great challenge that demanded a lot of his time and energy. Presently, he combines teaching English at St. Basilide’s Technical Institute- Kaleo with the job of Director of the second year Novices of the Ghana Province.

Congrats, for who you are and for what you are doing for the Kingdom.

Bro. Oscar G.
